CLEAR NECTAR ONLY!

Richelle Hunter

With Hummingbirds reported in Ontario, it is the perfect time to get your feeders out, if you haven't already, as well as a good way to 'convince' them to nest in your vicinity!  It is also the BEST to time remind everyone to offer CLEAR NECTAR ONLY!  Please, for the health and safety of the birds, do not offer any kind of nectar containing colour. The colours of your feeders, along with your blooms & blossoms, will bring the Hummingbirds (and Orioles) to your garden. As well, there should be no colouring in the nectar that you put in your Oriole Feeders. There is no way to prevent Hummingbirds from using an oriole feeder and vice versa....colouring isn't really good for anyone, let alone the birds so the best practice is to err on the side of caution!  Please also remember to change your nectar often and keep feeders clean & fresh!  Thank you for giving these beauties a helping hand while also enjoying their splendor!!

BALTIMORE ORIOLE SPOTTED; ANOTHER HEARD!! ARE YOU READY? WE ARE!!

Richelle Hunter

While the weather has been abnormally cold with snow & freezing rain, it seems that it hasn't slowed some of the migrating birds!  On April 19, 2017 we had a Baltimore Oriole visit our garden. We also had salmon-coloured tulips blooming!  After reminding folks of this visit on our FB page last night, a customer commented that she has already seen one in the London area!!  Are you ready...we are!!  We would normally advise that Nectar Feeders be placed two to three weeks prior to the "expected" arrival of Orioles & Hummingbirds. We often start out with orange halves for the Orioles.  Should cooler evening temperatures continue, you may want to bring the feeder in at night.

ICE, SNOW, RAIN & HIGH WINDS....CHECK FEEDERS & SEED!

Richelle Hunter

Following a weekend of freezing rain, ice, snow, rain & high winds in much of Ontario, and with more moisture expected this week, it is a good idea to check your feeders for damp seed and/or clogged ports. If seed has become wet, there's a good chance of it spoiling...you'll want to clean your feeders, dry them well and refresh with new seed.  Should you notice that the birds are not coming to your feeders, but are in your garden, there's a chance that the seed is no longer desirable.

CANDLES & PONCHOS...FOR WHATEVER THE WEEKEND WEATHER BRINGS!

Richelle Hunter

Predictions indicate that some nasty weather is on the way for the weekend of April 14/15.  Just a reminder that we offer an excellent selection of Beeswax Candles, Soy Candles, Battery Candles to light your way, should the need arise!  As well, our Ponchos are available year-round!! Not only are they a great extra layer any time of the year, but with spring taking its time to get here, they are perfect for these cooler "spring" days!  They're also a great layer for the cooler summer camping nights or even around the house when you want to turn the thermostat down!!

APRIL 4TH....SNOW RETURNS!

Richelle Hunter

It's a windy, blustery day with a return to snow!  It is looking like below seasonal temperatures will be continuing for the next week or so....give the birds a hand by keeping feeders filled!  They might even decide that your garden is a great place to nest!!
