Red-winged Blackbird looking forward to some more sunshine….maybe later today!
We saw a flash of red but knew the sound we were hearing was not that of a Northern Cardinal. Such a treat to see a Scarlet Tanager a few days ago!
We will be closed on Monday, August 2 for the Civic Holiday. Enjoy your day, everyone!
August has arrived…so have shipments of our beautiful GREETING CARDS and PUZZLES! Stop by 1830 Gainsborough to check out everything that we have available!
It’s the time of the year when more & more beautiful butterflies can be spotted around the garden, in a meadow or forest….look for them on a flower or plant near you! If you’ve got Monarchs around, you’ll want to Join the MONARCH BLITZ! (not a Monarch pictured below)
We’ve had some very humid days along with many days of rain showers. It hasn’t been a typical July but we sure needed the rain since we didn’t get much in the spring. One thing is for sure, rain doesn’t keep the birds away! These Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are looking for the feeders with our Safflower Seed - they love it!
Despite the damp weather, of late, Orioles and their fledglings are keeping feeders busy! Whether the immature birds have visited feeders or are perched nearby, you’ll want to keep feeders cleaned & filled to enjoy all the entertainment provided by these gorgeous birds!
Check out the shot we captured last night should you ever have trouble determining the difference between the Hairy Woodpecker & the Downy Woodpecker!
A time to reflect and to learn EVERYTHING about our history.
It looks like we will be winding down the month of June with heat, humidity and possible thunder storms! Reminder to change nectar feeders often while also placing in the shade, if possible. Seed feeders would also be better in the shade too. Keep birds healthy by keeping your feeders cleaned. We often only partially fill feeders during the heat of summer so as not to have to throw any products out. If you have a water feature in your garden in the form of a birdbath, it should be cleaned and fresh water added as much as you are able to when the heat is on! Don’t forget your pets - they need a cool spot and plenty of water just like the rest of us!
Summer officially arrived at 11:32pm Sunday, June 20th. Monday, June 21 is the first ‘full’ day of summer - have an amazing one!
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!
There’s a variety of birds & critters around yards & gardens as we approach the first day of summer! Many more birds will appear as nesting season continues. Soon, many adult birds will be bringing their young to feeders as teaching & learning continues through the summer! As for the critters, gardens are full of Eastern Cottontails….of every size & age…while Eastern Chipmunks are also plentiful in many areas. We’ve recently had some young red squirrels entertaining us. We hope you are also enjoying the happenings around your gardens!
Effective Friday, June 11 2021 our doors are once again open for in store shopping - welcome back! Thanks so very much for the awesome support over the last several weeks!
It’s butterfly & Ivory Silk Lilac season!
No words except - Spread Love
Our warmest weather of the season has arrived along with our first heat alert. Take care with plenty of water & a cool spot for all!
The Eastern Bluebirds are here to say “Hello June"!
Wow….one extreme to the other continues this spring! Our feeders were mostly empty this morning as the birds refueled in these very cool temperatures. Some areas of the province have had some snow and/or mixing of precipitation! Give those nesting or soon-to-be nesting birds a hand…they really need the energy right now! ‘Our’ Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have been spending longer moments at the feeders this morning!
The second & final supermoon of 2021 happens this Wednesday, May 26. We captured some shots of this soon to be full flower blood moon last night, although there were some clouds around. Some folks will also experience a lunar eclipse…we’ll have to watch online in our area!
