WATCH THE BIRDS, ENJOY NATURE OUTINGS!
Richelle Hunter
Whether it is from the comfort of one’s home or venturing out to a provincial park, conservation area or city park, watching the birds can sure relieve the stress many may be feeling in these uncertain times! It is well-known that getting out in nature is good for one’s mental health while also providing some amazing entertainment for all members of the family!
If watching nature from the home is the activity of choice, adding a bird house and/or bird feeder are both excellent ideas! Now is a perfect time to find a spot to place a bird house as birds that prefer a ‘cavity’ for nesting will soon be searching for their desired spot! Some may have chosen their location months ago or are returning to a location they have previously occupied.
As for feeding the birds, one can get as elaborate or as simple as they want! We offer both pole systems or shepherd hooks so that multiple feeders can be added to a garden. Place them in a spot where you & your family can comfortably observe them from inside the house. If you prefer something more simple, suet blocks or seed cylinders will attract many favourite backyard birds….find a spot to hang it, preferably where squirrels/chipmunks can’t get at it, sit back & enjoy! (Luckily this feeder closes so squirrels can’t clean it out!)
Water is also an important addition & an excellent way to attract birds to one’s property. Bird baths or other water features can also provide some wonderful entertainment while the birds will welcome all of your offerings!
