Once again, the weather is warming up….just in time for the first week of June! Along with the warmer temperatures, for the past week or so, we have noticed and heard an abundance of Cedar Waxwings - such gorgeous birds with an amazing sound!
After some record-setting heat, things have cooled quite a bit! The blooms, blossoms…and beautiful birds, however, will bring some cheer!
We are now seeing some unseasonal….hot….weather! You’ll want to make sure that you check your nectar feeders often - clean them well and change the offerings frequently! If you can place them in the shade, this will help a little. Make sure to freshen your bird baths with fresh, cool water as well…they will need a good cleaning too!

With the arrival of unseasonal/subzero temperatures - POLAR VORTEX - make sure feeders are full, fresh water in bird baths along with fresh nectar & fruit for the new arrivals (migrating birds) such as Orioles & Hummingbirds. You’ll want to do everything to give your garden visitors a hand during this unusual weather event!
Oriole not looking too happy knowing the weather that was predicted a few days ago!
This M Downy Woodpecker is loving the cage we have placed around a peanut cylinder! This gives him a little peace & quiet from the larger blackbirds (eg grackles) that so very often take over the feeders, scaring the smaller birds away!
Our first Orchard Oriole of the season arrived Sunday, May 3rd! They are such pretty orioles…this first one was checking out the fruit feeder when we first saw him!
More new arrivals this morning around our feeders - White-crowned Sparrows are here! When we look at them, they make us think they are wearing tiny helmets….so cute!
You definitely need to get your nectar feeders out or at the very least, an orange half or two…..Orioles are in the London, Ontario area!! While we haven’t seen or heard them yet, a customer has - yippee!
After hearing that Orioles are in the London, On area, we glanced out to our feeders & saw a new arrival in our garden- a White-throated Sparrow! They often arrive around the same time as the Orioles & others. If you haven’t seen one, as of yet, you may have heard them - such a great tune!
Captured these two beauties earlier this morning….nothing better than two brightly-coloured birds sharing a feeder. If you were wondering, they, along with many others, do love this Squirrel Buster feeder! Their colours & visits certainly make one feel like more spring weather is on the way!
