Feeders up! Ruby-throated Hummingbirds aren’t too far away….you never know if some could stop by your garden before you know it! They have been reported in Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana & Maryland….not really that far from Ontario! It’s a good idea to be ready, whether they are just passing through or staying, they will need a hand with not too many blooms or blossoms available as of yet!
Our contact-free phone orders continue with availability Monday through Saturday from 9am to 4pm.
Thank you for your support & understanding at this time of uncertainty.
This is no joke….It’s April 1st which means it is about a month (or so) until the Orioles arrive!
For the last two years, Baltimore Orioles have arrived on May 1st. Prior to that, it was a few days in to the month. Either way, it is a very exciting time for all of us and will certainly bring some cheer to yards & gardens everywhere.
Reminder to place your feeders a couple of weeks prior to their expected arrival…OR EVEN SOONER!

Watching & welcoming birds to your garden is a most wonderful stress reliever. Since nesting season is upon us, you may want to consider adding a bird house to your property….sooner than later as birds are searching for a spot very soon! Everyone in your family will certainly enjoy the actions and interactions as cavity-nesting birds decide if this is where they want to raise their young. Be sure to place your bird house where you can easily see it from your home but also in a suitable spot for the birds. (Check out All About Birds) If placing the house on a pole, it is important to baffle it so that predators can’t disturb or raid the nest. See below for our stock as of Monday, March 23/20. Thank you from all of us at Hyde Park Feed & Country Store.
For now, we are open, but please keep track of our decisions via website, facebook, twitter, instagram. Thanks for your support ~ Happy Spring with the hope of better times ahead for everyone around the world!

Whether it is from the comfort of one’s home or venturing out to a provincial park, conservation area or city park, watching the birds can sure relieve the stress many may be feeling in these uncertain times! It is well-known that getting out in nature is good for one’s mental health while also providing some amazing entertainment for all members of the family!
If watching nature from the home is the activity of choice, adding a bird house and/or bird feeder are both excellent ideas! Now is a perfect time to find a spot to place a bird house as birds that prefer a ‘cavity’ for nesting will soon be searching for their desired spot! Some may have chosen their location months ago or are returning to a location they have previously occupied.
As for feeding the birds, one can get as elaborate or as simple as they want! We offer both pole systems or shepherd hooks so that multiple feeders can be added to a garden. Place them in a spot where you & your family can comfortably observe them from inside the house. If you prefer something more simple, suet blocks or seed cylinders will attract many favourite backyard birds….find a spot to hang it, preferably where squirrels/chipmunks can’t get at it, sit back & enjoy! (Luckily this feeder closes so squirrels can’t clean it out!)
Water is also an important addition & an excellent way to attract birds to one’s property. Bird baths or other water features can also provide some wonderful entertainment while the birds will welcome all of your offerings!
First of all....
We would like to say a very appreciative THANK YOU to everyone for your always amazing support here....in the good, fun, happy times and now, in the uncertain, trying, sad & scary times.
Please know that your welfare is of our utmost concern when you shop/visit here ~
We are taking the necessary precautions - wiping down or washing surfaces that include our debit machine, counter, door handles, hard surfaces, etc., several times a day. (the debit more often). We are doing whatever we can so you feel more comfortable when you visit - we sincerely care about the health & safety of all of you.
Also - Thank you for supporting all the privately owned businesses/retailers (restaurants, gift shops, clothing stores, small town furniture stores, etc. etc. etc.) around the country. You will be helping all those folks who rely on their retail hours to support their families throughout this time of the known & unknown.
Thanks again, stay well, take care of each other!
If you haven’t heard, Tundra Swans are in the Lambton Shores area….in numbers! We visited on Sunday, March 8th and got our reward!
Is there a more sure sign of spring than the sight & sound of the Red-winged Blackbirds? With the warmer weather over the past few days, they have been in full chorus!
It’s Tundra Swan season, owl nesting season & so very much more! Birds are on the move! Check out updates from Paul Nicholson!
Once every four years….must mean a celebration is in order! Enjoy your ‘Leap Day’…. despite the snow!
Remember to brush that snow from feeders & clear seed ports, pack or clear snow below feeders, and top them up….the birds will appreciate easy access to food so that they can conserve their energy!
We’ve been having some much colder days with a chill in the wind and snow! Have you noticed an increase in the activity around your bird feeders?
While it has always been thought that the sighting of Robins signifies spring is close, Red-winged Blackbirds are considered by many to be one of the first signs. Today, we have our first Red-winged Blackbird of the season at our feeders! Along with the RWBB, winter has returned….fill your feeders!
