Rain, sun, humidity….we’ve had it all this first weekend of August (the Civic Holiday Weekend)! We’re closed Monday, August 3 but will return to regular hours on Tuesday, August 4th.
We picked up an order of cement bird baths & statuary this past Friday! We’ve been pretty much out of many items with people spending much more time in their gardens. Check them out at 1830 Gainsborough Road, London, Ontario - Watch for the big, blue building!
Are you noticing Monarch Butterflies in your garden? Do you have a patch of milkweed for them? We had one flutter through our garden a couple of weeks ago and then this one, this week! Finally got a few shots…sometimes they don’t sit still for long!

It’s hard to believe, with everything that has been going on, that we are almost to the middle of July! A great time around the feeders as the immature Orioles, Woodpeckers, Grosbeaks and others, fine their way around the yard & garden!
Our heat warnings continue……find a spot & take it easy! Eastern Cottontail has found a spot!
Make sure that you’re ready for the arrival of the fledgling Orioles….they should arrive around feeders at some point! You’ll want to to listen for them calling from trees near your feeders or around your yard!

We’ve had a number of days of high heat & it is expected to continue for at least 5 more days. Change the nectar in your feeders & clean them often; hang all feeders in the shade, if possible; clean seed feeders often; freshen bird baths daily or more than once per day; provide pets with a cool place….and plenty of water for all!

There is really no better time to welcome birds to your garden than the season when fledglings & juveniles are learning where the food is! You may notice them/hear them in the trees near your feeders, then they will soon learn what the feeders are! Once they arrive at the feeders, a parent will feed them until they know what to do themselves….it is such an adorable & lovely time of the year!

A week after this American Robin nest was vacated, another Robin soon took it over. Their nestlings will soon ready to leave their cozy spot!
Heat & humidity have made a return…make sure you are changing nectar feeders often & placing in the shade, if possible. Seed feeders would also be better in the shade. Some sort of watering hole will also help the birds and critters in your garden, but make sure to the change the water OFTEN. You don’t want standing water in your garden where mosquitoes will end up being an issue. Take care & don’t forget a cool spot/lots of fresh water for all…..don’t forget your furry family members!
