MARCH 31st...FEATHERING OF NESTS IS ON!

While the weather has been quite the roller coaster and will continue to be, Eastern Bluebirds are busy building their nests! Many species, such as Bluebirds, will have more than one clutch during the nesting season, so it’s not unusual to get a fairly early start!

AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES...PLUMAGE IS CHANGING!

HUMMINGBIRDS REPORTED IN ONTARIO!

It’s pretty early, but Hummingbirds have been reported in Ontario! Keep track of these tiny birds via Hummingbirds Canada and/or Journey North.

How great to walk out the door on this Saturday morning ~ the first day of spring ~ and to be welcomed by the tunes of this beautiful American Robin! Happy Spring everyone! There were plenty of other tunes as well!

We are fortunate to be a short drive from a couple of viewing areas for the beautiful Tundra Swans! They are around now but not for much longer! See these beauties at the Thedford Bog or Aylmer Wildlife Management area.

GRACKLES HAVE ARRIVED!

Following the arrival of ‘our’ Red-winged Blackbirds on Monday, March 8 2021, Grackles appeared around our feeders on Tuesday, March 9th. Although we may see more wintry weather, spring is definitely on the horizon!

NEVER A BAD TIME TO ADD A BIRDHOUSE!

There’s never really a bad time to place a birdhouse, but some times are better than others. Now might be one of those better times as birds are or will soon be looking for nesting spots. If they don’t choose to use one you’ve placed this year, they may find it in the future! We’ve watched birds checking out houses in the fall & also in the late winter, early spring. RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS HAVE ARRIVED!

While some of you reported Red-winged Blackbirds over the last week or so, ‘our’ first arrivals were serenading us early yesterday morning! What a joy to have them back….many consider them the first sign of spring!
