Happy Valentine’s Day…..Have a great week!
Just a Northern Cardinal dropping by to brighten the day!
Northern Cardinals are a garden favourite and are much-loved visitors to backyard feeders. They will accept/give many seeds a try with black oil sunflower being their most-preferred. Safflower seed is very popular too! Many common fruits are part of their diet as are insects, which are mostly what they offer their nestlings during nesting season.
Who doesn’t truly love the visits of the Black-capped Chickadees? Their sweet tunes and their very often quick visits to feeders during the winter are some of the best entertainment around! A common backyard bird, their favourite foods that you can offer are peanuts/peanut butter, sunflower, suet & mealworms. While they may take other seeds like safflower, those already mentioned are their preferences. In the spring, summer & fall they will mostly be looking for insects, spiders, etc. but may also pay a visit to your feeders.
If you happened to be out & about on Sunday, February 6 2022, you may have also been wowed by this fabulous sunset!
Well, here we are…saying so long to January 2022 and hello to the shortest month of the year! Have a great one! Northern Cardinals were loading up prior to an expected storm on Groundhog day….and Red-breasted Nuthatch wondering if they will share!
Our lovely, locally-poured & crafted soy candles - jars & tea lights - have been restocked!
Our wonderful puzzles are back in stock! Find some new images & some old favourites! (Reminder that most are “one only” in each design)
A tray feeder or fly-through feeder can be attractive to many birds, including the Woodpeckers! While they most-often cling to a peanut feeder, suet feeder, etc., they will also accept favourite foods from other types of feeders. Woodpeckers are always fun to welcome & observe around the garden!
When one sees a photo of a Northern Cardinal in the snow, it can stir up many wonderful thoughts & memories! If that photo is captured in a forest, a fir tree or on a branch layered with snow, even better! It’s always wonderful to see the Northern Cardinals visiting feeders any time of the year. Stop by our location at 1830 Gainsborough, London to pick up everything you need to welcome all the beautiful birds to your garden!
While our feeders have been fairly quiet so far this season, activity picked up yesterday! With the recent snowfall & cooler temperatures, several species were observed. The visitors included a Tufted Titmouse pair! (For a few more pics, check out our fb page!

Always fun to welcome the Nuthatches to the garden! They do love sharing the seed cylinders!
We’ve had some snowy days to start December along with days of warmer temperatures….just never know what you’re going to get in S.W. Ontario! Whatever the weather, welcome birds to your garden or that of a friend/relative as feeders & seed make for a wonderful gift idea! An interesting & unique way to start someone with bird feeding is to gift them a seed cylinder….an easy way to see if they enjoy the entertainment that the beautiful birds provide!
Our Sunday openings begin this weekend with our hours being Sunday, Dec 5, 12, 19, 11am to 2pm…Thanks for supporting local this gift-giving season!
Wishing everyone who is celebrating a very Happy Thanksgiving!
